ARAKI
Joan Saura and Anna Subirana
ARAKI is a first recording from the duet formed by Anna Subirana (voice) and Joan Saura (sampler). Their songs resemble photos or short films that transport the listener to remote places, intriguing moments and incredible situations; some inspired by Haikus, others the fruit of improvisation. In the voicework there is a kind of pre-language, almost without words, which comunicates easily with the sounds of the sampler, in this case not used for creating an especially rythmic or dansable music, but instead one which is descriptive, emotive and evocative.

References to seventies' pop, traditional music, blues, contemporary european music, etc, are apparent, but the result is an original sound far from the classic parameters of melody, harmony and rythm, a music that is centred principally in timbre and sonorous gesture. Two musicians with a solid professional background who, having coincided repeatedly in the improvisation field, have finally decided to take the leap in recording the curious world of sounds generated by their relationship.
